River Country’s Farms & Farmer’s Markets

Agriculture is the second largest industry in Michigan, employing a million Michigan residents.  Taste a sampling of River Country’s finest produce or select hanging flower baskets, vegetable plants and flats of flowers, as Michigan is one of the largest flower producers in the nation.

Gladiolas grow in fields just north of Three Rivers along Michigan Ave and Cotherman Lake Road. Beautiful fields of brilliant colors wave to you in the wind.   Fields of grain and corn reach for the sun.  Did you know you can hear corn grow?  Drive along the roads less traveled and stop in to one of the farm markets to pick up fresh eggs, cheese, plants, flowers, and a array of fruits and veggies.   Corey Lake Orchards (12147 Corey Lake Road, Three Rivers) has in-season produce including U-Pick or packaged veggies and fruit along with honey and maple syrup.  Stop in and try their vast selection of flavored brandy and wine made on the farm.  Countryside Greenhouse & Produce (25920Wasepi Road, Centreville) has amazingly large hanging baskets, vegetable plants and more.   Nottawa Fruit Farm (24838 M-86, Centreville) has a market full of veggies, fruit, plants,  honey and a live indoor observation beehive.  Take a look and see if you can find the queen bee.  She has a mark on her back to identify her and is the largest bee in the hive.  The Red Barn Greenhouse (60275 Rambadt Rd, Centreville) has a large variety of flats, potted plants and flower baskets.

River Country boasts eight Farmer’s Markets in the greater St Joseph County area.  The farmer’s markets will have in-season veggies and fruit, honey, plants, hanging baskets, baked goods, meat, poultry, eggs, handmade wood crafts and more.  It is a great way to eat locally fresh food and stay healthy.  Visit our area to find these hidden treasures of River Country.  Check out our Agri-Tourism Page for more information.  The Three Rivers Sustainable Food Guide is now available at local stores and libraries.  Pick one up today.
